January 28 (Thursday) Children’s Cabinet Resources
The Children’s Cabinet has many resources for providers and for their parents. Tonight’s class will give us an insight on how to access these resources and pass them on to our parents.
FEBRUARY
February 4 (Thursday) Karen Mack- What to do with the Mad that you feel
This workshop explores anger, where it comes from and how young children can gradually learn the self-control necessary to manage their anger and channel it into productive activity. This workshop will also suggest ways to intervene when children act out or lose control.
February 16 (Tuesday) Margaret Oberg- Spring and Summer Crafts, Activities
Let’s have fun with hands on learning. Fun filled ideas to keep little minds and hands busy. Enjoy the hands on experience of creating some crafts, including Valentines Day, Easter, Mother’s Day and Father’s Day gift ideas.
MARCH
March 3 (Wednesday) Diane Branson- Working with Children with Special Needs
It can be difficult to work with children with special needs. Diane Branson is from Early Intervention and will be here to answer questions and give strategies to give children with special needs the nurturing environment they need.

Learn how easy it is to cook with your kids, what kids learn while cooking and why it is so important. Fun friendly and easy meals your kids will love. Please bring one easy recipe on a card to share with others. (10 to 15 cards)

April 6 (Tuesday) Heather Sergi- Eat Right
How do you make sure that the children in your care are eating right? Are all the meal components being served, and are you giving them the right portion sizes for their age? This class is the one to give you those answers and more. Plus, how to plan your meals for all to enjoy and not lose your sanity or your pocketbook with kid friendly meals.
April 21 (Wednesday) Dr. Cariann Champagne- Pediatric Dentistry
Dr. Cariann is a pediatric dentist in Sparks. She will be here to talk about dental hygiene in children and what we can do as providers to assist in the care of their teeth.
April 26 (Monday) Sheri Blackwell- Basic First Aid
This training will provide the Lay Rescuer with the knowledge to recognize the different signs and symptoms of emergency situations, and the basic skills required to assist the patient or victim in crisis. We will also go over some everyday injuries and how to protect yourself, people around you as well as the patient. This class is from 6:30pm-8: 30pm. May 6 (Thursday) Marci Hosier-Behmaram- Where Will the Children Play?
With children being shuttled to and from one activity to the next, do you ever wonder, “Why don’t children PLAY anymore?” This class is based on the PBS special “Where Will the Children Play?” and explores the effects today’s society has on children when they don’t have a chance to get outside and play.

May 26 (Wednesday) Karen Mack- Let’s Learn with Science: Science Activities for Young Children
We will talk about basic skills that children learn from participating in science projects. We will discuss how science fits in with the rest of the curriculum, and we will participate in hands-on science activities.
JUNE
June 15 (Tuesday) Tammy Bock and Traci Lansford- Last Child in the Woods: Nature-Deficit Disorder
The child in nature is an endangered species. The way children understand and experience nature has changed radically since we were children. Children’s physical contact and intimacy with nature is fading. Learn about how important it is to get children outside and have them experience nature. Learn about the effects that nature or the lack of experience in nature has on our children.
June 30 (Wednesday) Washoe County Health District- Demystifying Washoe County Regulations: Implementation and Problem-Solving for Providers
This session will include an overview of the recent health and safety regulation changes, ways to incorporate them, and an opportunity for Q&A. We will demonstrate how the regulation changes can be implemented and give examples of some low-cost solutions. This class does not meet the requirements for “Signs of Illness.”
JULY
July 8 (Thursday) Amy Barthel- Music in our Hearts, Home and Preschool
This class will cover age appropriate songs, dances, and musical activities to use with your children ages 0-5. This is an interactive class. Please be ready to get up and dance and sing!
July 14 (Wednesday) Becky Carter-Steele- Early Literacy Skills: More Than Just ABC’s
Participants will learn about the foundations for early literacy and how to promote early literacy in family child care settings.

Participants will learn about the characteristics that make up the different types of temperament. Strategies for helping children with each temperament type will be discussed, as well as learning about goodness of fit for caregivers.
September 30 (Thursday) Marci Hosier-Behmaram- Chants, Fingerplays and Stories
Children need to hear language in order to learn language. Learn the importance of doing chants, finger plays and stories with the children in your care. We will do several chants and finger plays and will discuss storytelling that is age appropriate for the children in your care.
OCTOBER
October 7 (Thursday)Bill Goff- Understanding Taxes in Home Child Care
All your tax questions will be answered, including what to claim, how to minimize income, what are the best computer tax programs, which taxes pertain to childcare, and any new tax laws.
